Part 1 - A Wide Angle Lens Is A Must
I'm starting with this one first, because, without a legit wide-angle lens. You're not going to get very far in the real estate photography business. I'll explain more below... Hang tight. I got you.
Whether you are using a crop sensor camera or a full frame camera… Having a wide-angle lens is a must!
Unlike portrait photography where I would honestly tell you to use whatever gear you have – real estate photography is a much different world. Having a wide angle lens that shows the full spans of a room (especially a tiny one) can make all the difference! And it’s also why real estate photography can charge a premium rate.
Don’t believe me? I’ll show you the difference below...
This living room was shot with a wide-angle lens at a 24mm focal length.
Same room... but now I've change the focal length to 16mm.
Kitchen: Focal Length 24mm
Kitchen: Focal Length 16mm
Bedroom: Focal Length 24mm
Bedroom: Focal Length 16mm
Investing in new gear is a huge commitment. And I would urge you to NOT buy anything that doesn’t give you a good ROI (return on investment). If you don't need a $2,000+ lens. Don't buy one.
It's seriously okay to purchase a lens that works within your budget - and then spend the money you save on marketing yourself and growing your business.
Here’s what I suggest you start with... I’ll have the lens suggestions listed below by price.
